Our annual Summer Cabaret is a special event in which many of our older teenagers, those off to uni, college or performings arts courses, get to strut their stuff for the last time before their departure. It is therefore an event filled with nostalgia as some of the performers have been part of MHTS since infant school. We also get former pupils passing through and taking part in, what is for them, a one off event. For this show the auditorium is set out with tables a la cabaret lounge with a licensed bar. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children and former MHTS pupils.

The Michael Hall Theatre School presents Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with adults and children from its drama and dance departments in a contemporary setting of the Shakespeare tragedy. When love blossoms it recognises no social divide. However, gang culture, knife crime and binge drinking bring pressures to bear, which ultimately lead to catastrophe.

Two households, both alike in dignity, or lack of it, hate each other with a passion so intense, that, for any excuse, street violence, fuelled by drugs and alcohol, breaks out. Unfortunately, the teenage children of the heads of these two feuding families hold no such grudge. Their love, which, in the end, leads to their suicides, finally concludes the long running vendetta of the two ‘families’.

Romeo and Juliet can be seen at the Michael Hall Theatre School, 10, Preston Old Road, Marton, Blackpool FY3 9PR on Sunday 28 Feb at 2pm and Monday 1 March at 7pm. Tickets are available in advance or on the door £7.50, concessions £5.50. MHTS Students £3.00 (Refreshments included) Telephone 01253 696990 for further information.

After their resounding success in June of Puccini’s one act opera Gianni Schicchi, probably the first opera to be produced in Blackpool, Musica Lirica will be presenting an evening of Fund raising for Mozart’s vocal music on Saturday the 10th of October at the Visual Noise Arts Centre.

The concert is being staged in order to raise approximately the £400 required for the orchestral parts to Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro which the opera company will be putting on in 2010. The company hopes to do even better with the hugely popular Mozart opera.

The Mozart concert will include songs, arias, ensembles and choruses from Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Cosi fan tutte, and of course, The Marriage of Figaro, itself. In addition to music from the operas there will be numbers from oratorios and chamber pieces. Although the singing will be, in some cases, in the original languages the philosophy of Musica Lirica is to present their operas in English. Once again, there will be professionals such as the Covent Garden tenor, Kevin Matthews appearing, but also there will be a group of teenagers singing from two Mozart operas.

Venue: Visual Noise Arts Centre, 19 Preston Old Road, Marton, FY3 9PR For further information telephone 01253 696990. Tickets: adults £5, children £3. Refreshments are included. The concert begins at 7.30pm

The Michael Hall Theatre School presents Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with adults and children from the drama department in a contemporary setting of the Shakespeare tragedy. When love blossoms it recognises no social divide. However, gang culture, knife crime and binge drinking bring pressures to bear, which ultimately lead, to catastrophe.
