Our annual Summer Cabaret is a special event in which many of our older teenagers, those off to uni, college or performings arts courses, get to strut their stuff for the last time before their departure. It is therefore an event filled with nostalgia as some of the performers have been part of MHTS since infant school. We also get former pupils passing through and taking part in, what is for them, a one off event. For this show the auditorium is set out with tables a la cabaret lounge with a licensed bar. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children and former MHTS pupils.

Choreographed routines followed before the filming which took place in the Summer Holidays at various locations throughout the NorthWest.

“I am writing to congratulate everyone at CRS records on your absolutely fantastic double-DVD set (Row/Wheels). Everything about it is just perfect – the choice of songs and their matching locations, the enthusiasm and good nature of the children, the choreography, the filming and editing, the wonderfully funny Tony as host, actor and song leader. The whole thing is just incredibly professionally done for what must be a small company. The DVD has a recommended age of 3+, but we bought it for our 16 month old baby girl who loves it. She points at the DVD sleeve and goes ‘ah, ah, ah’ to let us know she wants to watch it. She knows a lot of the songs from playgroups and daddy and mummy know the others. We all sing together. We’ve already bought two sets, and will be buying more for other children’s birthdays. Please pass on this message to all involved – you have done an absolutely brilliant job.”

The Michael Hall Theatre School presents Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with adults and children from its drama and dance departments in a contemporary setting of the Shakespeare tragedy. When love blossoms it recognises no social divide. However, gang culture, knife crime and binge drinking bring pressures to bear, which ultimately lead to catastrophe.

Two households, both alike in dignity, or lack of it, hate each other with a passion so intense, that, for any excuse, street violence, fuelled by drugs and alcohol, breaks out. Unfortunately, the teenage children of the heads of these two feuding families hold no such grudge. Their love, which, in the end, leads to their suicides, finally concludes the long running vendetta of the two ‘families’.

Romeo and Juliet can be seen at the Michael Hall Theatre School, 10, Preston Old Road, Marton, Blackpool FY3 9PR on Sunday 28 Feb at 2pm and Monday 1 March at 7pm. Tickets are available in advance or on the door £7.50, concessions £5.50. MHTS Students £3.00 (Refreshments included) Telephone 01253 696990 for further information.
