The Michael Hall Theatre School Dance Department is divided into two categories

The school follows the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus in Ballet, Tap and Modern, with a training programme designed to monitor the progress and development of the young dancer through regular graded examinations. Children accepted from 3 years.

Dance examinations are now accredited on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England and Wales and Northern Ireland as shown below

Non Vocational
A variety of dance classes for fun and fitness suited to the recreational dancer.
Musical Theatre Dance Styles this class focuses on the different dance techniques used in the shows of London’s West End, New York’s Broadway and famous musical films.
Thurdays 5.30pm – 6.30pm (8-12yrs) 6.30 – 7.30pm(13+yrs)
Street/Hip Hop street dance is a term commonly used to describe many dance styles that began appearing in outdoor spaces in the United States in the 1970’s as an alternative way for gangs to “battle” their enemies. Born from this culture, Hip Hop is ever evolving and is now the mainstream form of dance for young people today.
Get a taste of urban life and dance with power and attitude to Hip Hop and RnB artists in this cool and funky class. Monday evenings 6.30pm – 7.30pm 14+yrs

Contemporary Dance this dance form is a collection of methods developed from modern and post modern dance. The class provides a rich vocabulary of techniques including Graham and Cunningham and also ensures that the aesthetic and physical aspects of current contemporary dance are thoroughly explored.
