Gianni Schicchi is the third of Puccini’s 3 one act opera’s known collectively as Il Trittico (The Triptych). One of the most well known of all Puccini arias “O mio babbino caro” (“Oh my beloved father”) is borne out of the comic situation in which Gianni Schicchi impersonates the dead Buoso Donati in order to change his will.
Gianni Schicchi is Puccini’s last complete work and makes an ideal introduction to the opera newcomer. Being less frequently performed than La Boheme, Tosca or Madam Butterfly, probably due to it’s length (60 minutes), this production will be of equal interest to the opera buff. It is his lightest and most intimate opera and is here performed in the most intimate of settings in the Visual Noise Arts Centre.
This production by Musica Lirica North West is fully staged, with orchestra and performed in English and available for production in other venues.
